The Fall of Constantinople on May 29th, 1453 was commemorated 551 years later by holding a Quiz Bowl event on the same day this year at College Prep School in Oakland.
Congratulations to Mission San Jose who claimed victory over all 8 of its opponents to claim the tournament title. The team of Kevin, Victor, Simon and Lisa went 8-0. Mission San Jose has thus won a bid to the 2005 PACE National Championship Tournament to be held in Orlando, FL. The Runner-Up was Bentley A (Kathy, Daniel, Hayden) who went 7-1 with their only loss to Mission San Jose - it is likely they too have qualified. Mission San Jose B took 3rd place at 6-2, their only losses to the teams who finished ahead of them.
Constantinople Bowl featured 9 teams, 3 from Mission San Jose, 2 from Bentley and one each from American, Aragon, College Prep and Andrew Hill of San Jose, making their first ever appearance at a Quiz Bowl event. A full round-robin was played at the end of which Mission San Jose A finished undefeated. There was thus no need for a playoff and they were declared the winners. The tournament top scorer was Kevin Koai of Mission San Jose A followed by Larry of Aragon and Brett on Bentley B who tied for the next most points per game.
Many thanks again to all those who contributed to the success of this event: College Prep and Anthony Loveday who provided the facility and moderated: my moderators:Eric Smith, Charles Wilson, Mr. DeCovnick and Bill Hughes.
