2004 NAQT Northern California State Championship
April 24, 2004 @ De La Salle High School
Mission San Jose won the Red Bracket (Varsity) at the NAQT State Championship Tournament held at De La Salle High School in Concord. The team of Darwin, Kevin, Victor, James and Simon went 7-0 to claim the tournament title outright. Mission San Jose has thus won the right to travel to Houston to compete in the NAQT High School National Championship Tournament. The Runner-Up was Bentley A who went 6-1 with their only loss to Mission San Jose - they also have qualified to attend the National Tournament. In the Blue (JV) bracket Half Moon Bay high school went 6-0 and thus took home some prizes as well. The runner-up was Acalanes.
The NAQT Northern California State Championship Tournament used IS-43 and featured 15 teams, split into 2 brackets: the red 8 teams and the blue 7 teams. Teams played one Round Robin (the JV teams each had a bye). In both brackets a clear winner emerged so there was no reason for an official playoff to determine a champion. The tournament top scorer was Kevin Koai of Mission San Jose A followed closely behind by Shad Small of Acalanes playing in his first tournament ever. Clifford Galiher of Half Moon Bay was the top scorer in the JV division followed by Steven Zhao of Mission San Jose B.
